Muirhead at Applethwaite Hall
Smart but relaxed with a more than a dash of county chic. Polished oak floors, comfortable leather seats, white napkins, flickering candle light and open fires are the order of the day alongside excellent local (ish) ingredients cooked with not too much faffery. The food is as delicious to look at as it is to eat. Wonderfully and charmingly attentive staff.
On the evening we visited we had fish from Scotland, shrimps from Morecambe Bay, beer from Hawskhead and damsons for which the Lythe Valley is famous.
Dogs: welcome at the tables in front of the bar
