A fabulous apartment - home from home. The extra touches made our stay special. Thank you!

We are Mike & Sarah. One of us was born and bred here in the Lakes. The other is Welsh.

Ever since 1986 - when we spent our first holiday together in the Lake District - we have longed for our own holiday cottage in what is without doubt, “the loveliest spot that man hath found.” (-William Wordsworth)

Fast forward 32 years and here we are. Finally.

Having spent the intervening years staying in holiday cottages of varying degrees of splendour and lack thereof we had formed a very clear idea of what our holiday apartment would look like.

  • It had to be clean. Spotlessly clean.

  • It needed plenty of drying space and a drying cabinet because, let’s face it, who needs wet boots?

  • The kitchen cupboards would be full of an abundance of good quality china, cutlery, glassware, pans, roasting tins, serving spoons, coffee makers and anything else that you use at home and don’t want to be without not to mention some things that you didn’t realise you needed (not sure which thermos you need? Take your pick - w have three different sizes). Oh, and a Kenwood Chef food mixer because sometimes when it’s raining, being able to make (and then eat) a cake is exactly what the children (and sometimes the adults) need.

  • There would be large, luxurious towels and heaps of hot water.

  • Comfortable beds were an absolute must.

  • A private, fully enclosed garden with comfortable seating and outdoor dining was non negotiable.

  • There had to be a view. Mountain or lake - we didn’t much mind. But definitely something wonderful that no one would never forget even when they back living their everyday lives.

  • Books. All the books - fiction, non fiction, nature books, local guide books and maps - would fill the shelves.

  • In short, it would feel like the sort of place you didn’t really want to leave.

We have worked very hard to meet our own criteria and are so happy that we have been awarded Visit England’s prestigious gold star award every year since we opened our doors to visitors

“Gold awards…celebrate accommodation establishments that outperform in their category, offering exceptional quality. The award helps guests find special places where hosts go the extra mile.”

We hope our holiday home feels special to you.

We hope you will enjoy watching the birds feed in the garden while you eat your breakfast.

We hope you will never forget seeing the sun set over the Langdale Pikes as you sit on the terrace with a well deserved drink after a day of adventuring.

More than anything, we hope you have the best holiday.

Mike & Sarah
